Letter from the Editor
by Sterling Davis
They told me that it is fitting on the occasion of our first issue to elaborate on my editorial proclivities and our reason for being. But, honestly, who has time for elaborations? You will forgive me if I cut directly to the chase. I am in opposition to the cultural phenomenon known as cancellation. I am also in opposition to the tendency of literary magazines to only publish uncontroverted, safe (whatever that means), and bowdlerized work. This magazine will always keep a door open for artists to express themselves. We will not be cowed by philistinism, nihilism or prudery. We will publish the best work, and tirelessly advocate for our artists. Art must never be silenced. Join us in our intellectual career of openness and artistic freedom. Support us by following us on Instagram, and by exhorting your friends and family to do the same. Consider making a gift. And most importantly, send us your work. Poetries in English will continue to provide a space for all artists to be heard. Sterling Davis is the Executive Editor of Poetries in English. |
