Saved
|
by Dani L. Foster
O! I cry Save me from being a temperate woman Quiet, unobtrusive, small. Save me from being a daughter Who was loved more when she was Obedient, responsible, good. O! To be a woman Who is chaos, who is wild, who is bold Who utters no as easy as she breathes Whose laugh shakes the world like thunder Who dances as the sky pours and the drums beat. Savage, courageous, serene. She extends her hand to me. I reach. She pulls me into the storm. She holds me, twirls me, We dance, laugh, cry. She shows me I am Strong, resilient, worthy. I learn to trust her as I trust no other Love her as I love no other She is the mother I long for, The friend I aspire to be, The daughter, laughing and free. She is me. I am Strong, brave, wild. I am dancing alone in the rain as the drums keep time. Content, peaceful, happy I am loving myself. I have saved myself. Dani L. Foster writes from the Rocky Mountains. Foster is at work on her first novel. |
