Three Poems

by Maggey Turner

DVDs

The new age
cigarette butts and piles and piles of
leaflets, praise Jesus, praise
the end of my nails, the end of the song
the day and night of forever forever

I pull my hair
My tongue
My endless forever godblessyou and such
The woods of endless suburbia
And it’s gone for a cheap 14.95

Sway and sway again
Or let it crystallize
And hold your hand to your throat

Let a forever forever
Dictate how hot you feel
How warm the blanket is.

Did You Pray Today

The way that the anxiety
pokes little holes in your vocal chords
and the way that
god took you in her arms and broke
your spine into little bits
and the way that
he kissed you goodnight for the last time
and the way that
it all hits your lungs
and the way that
the colors start to brighten
oh my god oh my god oh my god
it’s so pretty
and you thank the feet that hold you
and you thank the knees that won’t stop shaking
and you thank the eyes that are crying
and it feels good
to be here to be here to be here

The Flesh is Canvas/Kitty Cat

The sting lasts for a day or two,
But then I'll have this tattoo forever
So I’ll spend my time
Remembering how it felt
And how the next ones will feel.
_________________________________________
It’s weird to see reincarnation
Happen right in front of you
But when the cat sits on my lap
As i'm reading your texts
I’m happy to know you’re still here.
