Letter from the Editor

by Sterling Davis
As I write this editorial, darkness falls on our bright and troubled lands. There is a frontal assault on free speech across our society. I can no longer stand and critique this disturbing and illiberal decline of the highest values of man from the relative distance of the editorial chair. The act of recension or annihilation of art or work one merely doesn’t agree with is a threat to our twenty-first century society. So often narratives are constructed to oppose speech merely because we don't like the identity of the speaker. We make war on opinions that are different from ours. And we renew this conflict with our censorship. Let the word go forth that all mortal men ought to have the right to speak their truth. As scripture says, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Sterling Davis is the Executive Editor of Poetries in English. |
